WhatsApp tricks you'd wish you knew earlier

With one billion users, WhatsApp remains the most popular chatting app that is out there. With the annual fee long gone and video calling finally being possible with better video quality, there stands absolutely nothing between its users and endless chats.

In this article you will learn some WhatsApp tips and tricks that will turn you into a messaging master.

1. The blue tick
Everyone knows what the blue double tick is and what it does. The blue tick means that the person to whom the message is sent has indeed read the message. You might have noticed that sometimes the blue tick doesn't appear even if a person has read the message. So in order to be sure whether he or she has read it or not, tap and hold on the required message. It will show if the message has been delivered or read by the other person.

2. Turn into igcognito:
You can hide that you've read messages on an individual basis. Before you open the questionable chat, switch your phone to airplane mode. You can now read away with no alert being sent. Now exit the message before you turn airplane mode off again, and it will remain unread - well, in the sender's eyes at least.

3. Make text bold or italics.
WhatsApp's version 2.12.535 allows you to write your messages in bold or in italics. To write something in bold use * just before and after the message. For example, if you want to write "Hi" in bold, just type *Hi*. In order to type in Italics,  add (underscore) “_” before and after the text. For example if you want to write "Hello" in italics, just type "_Hello_" (without the quotations). Same like Bold formatting,WhatsApp will now convert the text to Italics.

4. Save data:turn off autodownload
When you have the autodownload feature enabled, photos and videos that are sent to you are automatically saved in your phone. Now, at times this may consume considerable amount of mobile data. In order to save data and turn off autodownload, go to Settings>Data Usage. Under 'Media Auto Download', you will see "when using mobile data". Tap on it and uncheck all the boxes.
